Indoor Air Quality: (IAQ) Many companies call themselves IAQ specialists. Here at MWHC&P we really are specialists in IAQ. We provide testing through an independent source called “Air Advice”. Air Advice monitors your home continuously for up to a week to determine the factual realities of what is in your home, good bad or otherwise. It monitors temperature, humidity, particulate, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds). VOC’s are produced from many items in your home such as paint, carpet, stains, aerosol sprays, laquers and many of the products that make up your home. Left untreated these VOC’s can be detrimental to you and your family’s health. They can also cause unpleasant odors. Americans spend almost 80% or more of their time indoors. Don’t you owe it to yourself and your family to breathe the cleanest air possible? IAQ also covers a broad spectrum. It can be filtration, through the use of a variety of choices including paper media filters, electronic filters and HEPA filters. These filters can be adapted to fit any need you may have. Humidification and de-humidification are important IAQ products. With humidifiers, variable speed furnaces and outdoor units this process can be limitless. Mold, mildew and bacteria are controllable with the use of Ultra-violet lights. Along with HEPA filtration, ultra-violet lights have now been adapted for residential applications. Previously they were typically used for hospital operating rooms or clean rooms in the computer industry. Homes today are being built more airtight than ever. Energy costs and demands have made it necessary to seal a home to prevent infiltration. As often is the case, this is a two edged sword. On one hand tighter homes are more energy efficient. On the other hand, air is continually recycled and never exchanged with fresh outdoor air. Thus the term: “Sick Building Syndrome” The answer to this can be the introduction of fresh air into your home through products designed to bring fresh air in as they exhaust stale air out. During the process, the outgoing air tempers the fresh air being brought in so that your HVAC system doesn’t have to counter extreme temperatures of hot or cold outdoor weather. These are referred to as Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) or Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV).

Thermostats: MWHC&P offer a full line of thermostats for every need that may arise. From the standard round Honeywell thermostat that has been around for years to the exciting new “Touchscreen” 7-day programmable thermostats that allow you to individually program each day of the week. It will show the humidity level in your home as well as the outdoor temperature. Using programmable thermostats can cut your energy bills by up to 10%. Some thermostats even control the humidity level in your home in both the winter and the summer.

Zoning: Zoning an HVAC system allows you to control temperatures in areas of your home that have previously been hard or impossible to make comfortable. Multiple level homes that are troublesome become as comfortable as if you had a separate system for each zone. Upper levels that were too hot in the summer become as comfortable as you choose. Zoning allows you to have thermostatic control over every level and even every room should you so desire. Zoning can also save valuable energy dollars by only conditioning those areas that actually are calling for heat or cool.
