Thermostats and Zoning

Programmable Thermostats

With energy costs continually rising, the costs to keep your home comfortable continue to rise as well. A practical and cost efficient method to help reduce those costs is to have a “programmable thermostat” installed by Midwest Heating Cooling and Plumbing.

Reduce Utility Bills

When used properly, it is estimated that programmable thermostats can reduce your utility bills by as much as 10%.

These units automatically raise and lower temperatures in your home whether you’re there or not. They can set temperatures back while you sleep and when you wake the temperatures are back to where you desire automatically with no effort on your part. Some thermostats control the operation of the blower on your furnace to assist with other indoor air quality products, while others will diagnose problems within your system and can notify both you and Midwest Heating Cooling and Plumbing that there is a problem and what the problem may be so that it can be addressed immediately.

Wi-Fi Thermostats

Wi-Fi enabled thermostats allow you the ability to control your home system by your smart phone, tablet or computer while you’re away from home.

Electronic Zoning Gives You Precise Control

So many times we as contractors are asked if there is a better way to control the temperature in a home. One floor is always warmer or colder. The second floor is so hot in the summer. The lower level is too cold. The answer to these questions is yes. Electronic zoning gives homeowners precise control over your entire home's comfort.

Electronic Zoning by EWC allows you as the homeowner and us as the contractor to put an end to temperature fluctuation throughout your entire home. By utilizing electronic dampers and thermostats on each level of your home, precise temperature control is as easy as adjusting a thermostat. Zoning is the next best thing to having two systems to heat and cool your home. It’s also less expensive than installing two systems.

Zoning is best used when there are multi-levels to a home, where one system is large enough to satisfy the heating and cooling requirements but balancing the air-flo to each floor is difficult. A thermostat on the main floor has no idea what the temperature on the second floor is and thus the system only runs when the temperature on the main floor is calling for heating or cooling.

Even homes with multiple systems can benefit from zoning. A home that is large enough may require multiple zones per system to maintain the precise comfort that many people prefer.

Zoning makes sense economically in many ways. In addition to being cheaper than additional systems, why heat or cool areas that are not being used? We often see homes that have a finished basement that is used only for entertainment or home theater rooms. If you aren’t using the area, there is no need to spend energy dollars to heat and cool the area. A two-story home with all the bedrooms upstairs allows you to heat or cool the upstairs at night when everyone is upstairs and not condition the unoccupied first floor.

Zoning will use less energy and provide greater comfort to you and your family. Zoning makes sense in so many ways. It is one of the many Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) products available. Please contact Midwest Heating Cooling and Plumbing for more details on how zoning can benefit you and your family. After all, comfort is what we provide.
